Garmin Strap Guide
Garmin watches don't all take the same strap. Depending on the model, yours uses a QuickFit strap, a standard watch strap with spring bars, or a strap made just for that model. Once you know which one you've got, finding a strap that fits takes seconds.
The quickest way is our Garmin strap finder: type your model and it shows you exactly which strap it takes. This guide explains how it all works, so you can buy with confidence.
Step 1: find out which Garmin you've got
The model name is printed on the back of most Garmin watches. If it's hard to read, open the Garmin Connect app and look at your device. It shows the full name, such as Fenix 8 AMOLED 47mm or Forerunner 265S.
The size matters as much as the name. Many Garmins come in two or three sizes, and each size takes a different width of strap. A Fenix 8 43mm and a Fenix 8 51mm look alike, but their straps don't swap.
Step 2: which fitting does it use?
QuickFit
QuickFit is Garmin's own click-on system. There's a latch on the underside of the strap that locks onto the watch, so you can swap straps in seconds with no tools. QuickFit straps come in three widths:
- 20mm QuickFit: the smaller models, such as the Fenix 8 43mm, Fenix 7S, Epix Pro 42mm and Instinct 2S.
- 22mm QuickFit: the most common size, such as the Fenix 8 47mm, Fenix 7, Forerunner 965 and 970, Instinct 2 and Instinct 3 45mm.
- 26mm QuickFit: the biggest models, such as the Fenix 8 51mm, Fenix 7X, Enduro 3 and Instinct 3 50mm.
A QuickFit strap fits any QuickFit watch of the same width, so a 22mm QuickFit strap fits a Fenix 7, a Forerunner 970 and an Instinct 2 alike.
Standard width
Many Garmins, including the Venu, Vivoactive, Vivomove and several Forerunners, use normal watch lugs. That means any standard watch strap of the right width will fit, and you've got our whole range to choose from, not just Garmin straps. Every strap comes with spring bars, and our quick-release straps have quick-release spring bars already fitted.
For example, the Vivoactive 5 and 6 and the Forerunner 165 take a 20mm strap, the Venu 3 and Forerunner 265 take a 22mm strap, and the Venu 3S and Forerunner 265S take an 18mm strap.
Own fit
Some older models, such as the Forerunner 235, Forerunner 45, Vivofit and the original Vivosmart, have their own connector. They need a strap made for that exact model, so pick it from the finder rather than by width.

Got a brand new Garmin that isn't listed yet? Measure your current strap where it meets the watch, or check the manual for the band width. If it uses QuickFit, the width will be 20mm, 22mm or 26mm.
How to change a Garmin strap
QuickFit: turn the watch over, lift the latch on the strap, and pull the strap away from the watch. Line up the new strap, press it in until it clicks, then close the latch. Do one side at a time.
Standard width: it's the same as any watch. Use the quick-release lever or a spring bar tool to free the old strap, then fit the new one with its spring bars. Our guide on how to replace a watch strap walks you through it.
Own fit: these vary by model, but most slide or clip in. The strap's product page explains how.
Which material?
Silicone and rubber are the go-to for training. They're waterproof, cope with sweat and wipe clean in seconds. Nylon is light and breathable, which is great for long runs and hikes. For the office or a night out, a leather strap makes a Garmin look much smarter.
Common questions
Do all Garmin straps fit all Garmins?
No. It depends on the fitting and the width, which is why the model and size matter. The finder does the matching for you.
Can I use a normal watch strap on my Garmin?
Yes, if your Garmin uses standard lugs, as the Venu, Vivoactive and many Forerunners do. Just pick a strap in the right width. QuickFit and own-fit models need their own straps.
Will an Apple Watch strap fit a Garmin?
No. Apple Watch straps slide into a groove on the case, which Garmins don't have.
Are your straps made by Garmin?
No. They're made to fit Garmin watches, but they aren't made by or connected with Garmin.
Still not sure?
Type your model into the Garmin strap finder, or get in touch and we'll tell you which strap you need.
